Experience the Zen of creating functional works of art in our spacious, professional studio. In these classes, students learn the techniques for wheel-thrown and hand-built pottery from raw clay to finished vessel from an experienced, involved teacher.

Classes have participants of various abilities from beginner to advanced. Therefore, instruction focuses on the processes of pottery and skill development. You pick the projects, we help you achieve your goals. Learning is individualized to meet each student's needs.

Students can makeup missed classes by attending a different class or using open studio time. Up to two classes can be carried over to subsequent terms. If you do not re-enroll, you have two weeks to make up any missed classes using open studio.

Tour Our Expansive Whitehouse Studio

Our Whitehouse Station studio is housed on the first floor of a home built in the 1930s and painted red to resemble our original pottery barn. With almost an acre of property and beautiful landscaping, we have created a serene setting to develop your artistic side.

Throwing Room

Twelve wheels line the sides of a low wall allowing easy access to supplies, fluid student communication and plenty of space for the instructor to walk around as they offer helpful advice and give hands-on support. We have bats on which to create your pots so they don’t get ruined as you remove them from the wheel, as well as Giffin grips for trimming and two sinks you can actually use.

Hand-Building

Beautiful, natural light enters our studio, but nowhere is it better than the handbuilding area. We have three tables covered in canvas for hand-building with one specifically for white clay. The Hi-Roller and extruder are excellent tools for both sculpture and hand-building.

Studio Supplies

Our shelves are neatly filled with everything you need to throw, decorate and create from cookie cutters to all types of molds to decorative ribs. You do not need to purchase your own tools.

Student Shelf Room

Students are given a spacious shelf, approximately 3 square feet, to store their clay and works in progress. Larger or extra items, like personal glazes and tools, can be stored on personal shelves in the basement.

Glaze Room

Our glaze room is stocked with fifty dipping glazes encompassing 2500 possible combinations which are all food safe. We also have a diverse selection of underglaze for decorative painting.

Students may purchase specialty glazes with permission.

Kiln Room

The L&L DaVinci electric kiln is a workhorse that holds almost 12 cubic feet of ware. It generally fires twice per week to keep student work moving through the process as it creates a water-tight, functional finish.
